Does UN Comtrade provide buyer/supplier-level data?

The UN Comtrade database does not include detailed buyer or supplier information. Specifically, it does not provide:

  • Names and contact details of exporters (suppliers) or importers (buyers)
  • Shipment dates
  • Average prices
  • Origin and destination port details

UN Comtrade is a global repository of official International Merchandise Trade Statistics (IMTS). It focuses on trade statistics at the country level, rather than on individual companies or transactions. Buyer/supplier-level data—such as the identities of exporting or importing enterprises—are considered confidential in official statistics, in line with Principle 6 of the Fundamental Principles of Official Statistics.
